Primum non nocere. First, do no harm. This is a central principle in the practice of medicine. Physicians have a variety of medications, tests and procedures that can help patients, but these tools must be used appropriately. My job as a physician is to educate my patients about the risks and benefits of available treatments, and help them to make an informed decision about their care.
