Jeffrey A. Tjaden: Dr. Tjaden attended medical school at Saint Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO, and completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He later completed a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the National Capitol Consortium and a Master of Public Health (Tropical Medicine/Epidemiology) from the Uniformed Services University. Prior to joining the Northwest Healthcare medical staff, Dr. Tjaden was a Commander in the United States Navy Medical Corps where he served on the medical staff of the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Tjaden has expertise in the treatment of infectious diseases caused by microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites. He also specializes in the treatment of HIV, post-operative infections and travel medicine (counseling of healthy people planning to travel to areas with increased risk for infection). He has a particular interest in viral diseases and has lived and worked in many different countries throughout Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East, most recently Egypt. When helping patients who suffer from infectious diseases, Dr. Tjaden feels that much of his role includes alleviating their fears and anxieties, education, and development of an effective treatment strategy. “It's important to establish relationships with patients and understand their medical history to establish a treatment plan,” said Dr. Tjaden. “Much of my role includes educating my patients so they can effectively make decisions to take charge of their treatment and recovery.”
