I was born in Oakland, California, and grew up in the Redlands in Southern California. My wife is from Washington, and I now consider it my home. I am happily married to my college sweetheart, Rosa, and we are fortunate to have three children. The oldest is now attending medical school. In order to apply my science background more directly to the care of people, I changed from pursuing a career in engineering to one in medicine. I have been very happy to combine science with the fulfilling practice of medicine. My children are string musicians (two violinists and one cellist). I serve on the board for the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra, the premier youth orchestra in our Bellevue, Washington area.
