In 1997, Dr. Kwong earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. He was inducted into the Chemical Engineering Honor society, Omega Chi Epsilon. Prior to entering medical school, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Louisiana – Lafayette in sputter-field technology. In 2003, he was awarded his Doctorate in Medicine from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his internship (2003-2004) in General Surgery at Charity Hospital through the Department of Surgery at Tulane and stayed at Tulane for his residency in ophthalmology (2004-2007). Dr. Kwong completed training as a Vitreoretinal Fellow here at Associated Retina Consultants. Dr. Kwong maintains membership in the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retinal Specialists.
He has presented at annual meetings for both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Dr.Kwong is licensed in both Arizona and Louisiana and is a member of the Maricopa Medical Society. During his residency, he was awarded the C.S. O’Brien Award for Best Basic Science in Ophthalmology at the annual O’Brien Research Day at Tulane.
Dr. Kwong currently serves as the Director of Ophthalmological services at Banner Good Samaritan. He is also an associated clinical professor and associated clinical director of vitreoretinal surgery at Maricopa Integrated Health Systems. He is actively participating in Silicone interface research in cooperation with Arizona State University and is currently involved in the following national clinical trials for Genentech and Regeneron. During his free time, Dr. Kwong chases after his three young boys and tries to shorten his “honey-do†list.
