Brief Intro

Unab I. Khan, MD, MS, a board-certified specialist in adolescent medicine, is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Family & Social Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Khan is also Medical Director of the Bronx Nutrition and Fitness Initiative for Teens (B’N Fit) weight management program at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Khan earned her bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery degree in 1993 from the Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed her residency in family medicine at Southside Hospital in Bayshore, New York, where she was named Resident of the Year in 1999 and won an award for obstetric excellence. After working in a family medicine practice in Willimantic, Connecticut, Dr. Khan began her fellowship in adolescent medicine at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in 2003. She joined the pediatric faculty at Einstein and Montefiore upon completion of her fellowship. In 2009 Dr. Khan earned a master’s degree in clinical research from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, with her thesis focusing on the effects of systemic inflammation in adolescents with obesity and asthma. Dr. Khan’s academic and research interests are in cardiometabolic risk factors in adolescents with obesity. In December 2010 she was awarded a K-23 Career Training Award from the National Institutes of Health for examining the effects of weight loss on atherogenic risk in distinct obesity phenotypes in adolescents.
