Brief Intro

Dr. Todd Linsenmeyer has served as the Director of Urology at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation for the past 20 years. He specializes in the evaluation and management of managing voiding dysfunctions, including urinary incontinence and urinary retention which result from a neurogenic bladder, as condition often related to a spinal cord injury (SCI), brain injury, stroke or neurological disorders, such as multiple sclerosis. He also established a specialized urology program for adults with spina bifida more than 15 years ago. Dr. Linsenmeyer was awarded his medical degree from the John A. Burns School of Medicine, Honolulu, HI, and completed a residency in urology at Tripler Army Medical Center, also in Honolulu. He went on to complete an additional residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. He became board certified in urology in 1986, and recertification in 1994 and 2005. He received his board certification in physical medicine and rehabilitation in 1990 and an additional sub-specialty board certification in spinal cord injury medicine in 2003. In fact, Dr. Linsenmeyer is one of only two physicians in the country to hold triple board certification. Dr. Linsenmeyer, who joined Kessler Institute in 1989 as Director of Urology, He continues to provide a wide variety of special services to individuals with neurogenic bladders, including urodynamics, biofeedback, cystoscopy, botox injections into the sphincter, treatment strategies to prevent urinary tract infections. He also treats male infertility and sexual dysfunction. He has received numerous awards and honors for both his clinical work and scientific research â€" having first been recognized for his work on treating male infertility problems during his residency at Tripler Army Medical Center. He has also been honored by the American College of Surgeons and the American Spinal Cord Injury Association. His research has focused on a wide range of urological problems. From 1991 to 1996, for example, he worked on a study involving spinal cord injury and infertility through a research grant from the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association (EPVA) and then the National Institutes of Health. He has recently completed research on prevention of bladder stones with funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs - Division of Rehabilitation Medicine and on the effectiveness of cranberry and other supplements at preventing bladder infections. He is currently conducting research on the appropriate use of antibiotics in patients with spinal cord injuries who have bladder infections through a grant funded by the SCI Model System. A board member of the American Paraplegia Society since 1993, Dr. Linsenmeyer served as president of the organization from 2003 - 2005. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Spinal Cord Injury Association. He now on the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Spinal Cord Research Foundation, the steering committee of the Spinal Cord Medicine Consortium and the American Paraplegia Society clinical practice guideline committee. He is chairman of the PVA- sponsored guideline for the management of autonomic dysreflexia following spinal cord injury and for the urological management of individuals with spinal cord injury. He is also a member of the New Jersey Stem Cell Advisory Panel. Dr. Linsenmeyer is recognized nationally and internationally for his work. He has prepared more than 120 medical presentations and has written or co-authored 55 peer-reviewed articles, 16 book chapters and 55 abstracts. He has also written a comprehensive consumer guide on bladder management following SCI for the National Association for Continence. Presently, he is working on a SCI Consumer Guideline with the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
