Brief Intro

Timothy J. Kinsella, MD, is a research scholar professor in the department of radiation oncology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and principally affiliated with Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Childrens Hospital, and The Miriam Hospital. He received his medical degree, as well as a masters degree in radiation biology, from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in New York. He trained in internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, in medical oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA, and in radiation oncology at the Harvard Joint Center in Boston, MA. He is board certified in all three specialties. Before joining Rhode Island Hospital, Kinsella worked at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), in Bethesda, MD, at the University of Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Center, in Madison, at the Case Western Reserve University Comprehensive Cancer Center, in Cleveland, Ohio and at the Stony Brook University Cancer Center in Stony Brook, NY. Currently Kinsella serves on the board of scientific advisors of the National Cancer Institute; the External Advisory Board, Integrative Cancer Biology Program, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and the Radiation Discipline Working Group, NASA. He also serves as an associate editor of cancer research and clinical cancer research and editor-in-chief of Frontiers In Radiation Oncology. Over the last three decades, he has published over 350 articles and three cancer-related textbooks. His clinical interests include treatment of gastrointestinal cancers, adult and pediatric sarcomas, adult and pediatric brain tumors and lymphomas. He has been cited over many years in Americas Best Doctors , Americas Top Doctors in Cancer , Americas Top Radiologists and Whos Who in America . His research interests include the development of radiosensitizing and photosensitizing cancer drugs and the development of new radiation therapy techniques such as linac-based stereotactic radiosurgery, intraoperative electron beam radiation therapy and image-guided radiation therapy. He has been the recipient of numerous grants, including NIH funding continuously for over 30 years.
