Brief Intro

Some of the most challenging cancers to treat are those originating in the head and neck, particularly in the oral and nasopharyngeal cavities. Fortunately, Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology Susie Chen, M.D., loves a challenge. We want to get as many people as possible to survivorship. "Head and neck cancers are very close to vital organs. Its prime real estate, so treatments are detailed and intricate," Dr. Chen says. But its more than just an academic challenge to her. "Head and neck patients go through a tough course of treatment," she continues, "so they need a lot of TLC. We really have to be there for them. I consider it a blessing to be able to help them in their time of need." Dr. Chen is an accomplished physician and researcher, whose work has been published in notable medical journals including Cancer and the International Journal of Radiation Oncology * Biology * Physics. She joined the head and neck cancer team at UT Southwestern late in 2012 after completing a residency in radiation oncology at Emory University.
