Steven J. Fogarty, MD has dedicated his professional career to saving sight. Dr. Fogarty is originally from Iowa. He enlisted in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. During his enlistment he served as the Senior Corpsman in the Ophthalmology Department at Naval Hospital in New London, Connecticut. He was honorably discharged after four years of active duty service. He returned to Iowa where he attended the University of Iowa for both undergraduate studies and then received his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. During and following medical school, he was also involved in basic and clinical research in microbiology and virology. After medical school, Dr. Fogarty went on to complete a three-year ophthalmology residency at Saint Louis University. He subsequently went to West Virginia University for post-graduate training in diseases of the retina and vitreous. While in West Virginia, he also served as a member of the clinical staff in the Vitreo-Retinal service. He has been involved in numerous clinical trials, including some of the newest treatments for macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Fogarty is Board Certified in Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He accepts patients with a history of retina problems, including referrals from other eyecare professionals and physicians for any problems relating to diseases of the retina and vitreous, including diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.
