Dr. Manolidis is faculty at Beth Israel hospital with expertise in Skull Base Surgery, Otology, Neurotology and Head & Neck Surgery.
He graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1998. He completed his residency training at McGill University in 1993 and subsequently pursued and completed two fellowships. One in Head and Neck Surgery, Reconstruction and Craniofacial trauma at University of California Davis Medical Center and another fellowship in Otology - Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery with the Otology Group at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
He begun practicing in 1997 at Texas Medical Center where he was faculty at Baylor College of Medicine. He was based at Methodist Hospital, Texas ChildrenÂ’s Hospital, St. LukeÂ’s Hospital, Ben Taub General Hospital and the Houston VA. During this time he founded and directed the Hearing Center at Texas ChildrenÂ’s Hospital, a multidisciplinary endeavor for children with hearing loss and deafness. He also directed the pediatric head and neck surgery and skull base surgery at Texas ChildrenÂ’s Hospital. He was also a co - director of the facial nerve center, a multidisciplinary group of surgeons dealing with facial nerve paralysis. He was twice awarded the Fullbright award for excellence in education. In 2004 he moved to New York City and joined the faculty at Columbia University and practiced at New York Presbyterian Hospital as well as The Morgan Stanley Babies Hospital. He was director of head & neck surgery, director of otology and director of skull base surgery. From 2007 to 2009 he was in private practice in Manhattan and in 2009 joined the full time faculty at Beth Israel Hospital in the department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at the rank of Associated Professor at Albert Einstein School of Medicine.
He has lectured extensively both in the United States and abroad. And has developed a national and international recognition for his academic work and contributions to his fields of interest. He has authored numerous publications (a link to pubmed with a search for manolidis, s would be nice) both on clinical and basic science work. He holds several patents for medical device inventions and is a recipient of funds for ongoing research from both the national institutes of health (NIH) and the national science foundation (NSF). He has participated extensively in humanitarian / educational missions in both southeast Asia and the Meditteranean basin countries.
His has clinical expertise and interest in the following areas:
1. Skull Base Surgery: surgical and multimodality treatment of benign and malignant tumors affecting the skull base region. Examples of these are: acoustic neuromas, meningiomas, facial nerve tumors, glomus tumors, benign and malignant parotid tumors, sarcomas, parapharyngeal space tumors among many other skull base issues
2. Facial Nerve Disorders: conditions affecting the function of the facial nerve causing paralysis or dysfunction.
3. Otology / Neurotology: chronic ear disease, correction of hearing loss, cochlear implants, bone anchored hearing aids, surgery for otosclerosis. Vertigo & dizzyness.
4. Head & Neck surgery: adult and pediatric surgery for both benign and malignant head & neck tumors
5. Craniofacial Trauma: reconstruction of craniofacial trauma with particular emphasis on the orbit.
