Dr Stamou was born in Athens, Greece. He studied Medicine at the University of Athens Medical Schhol where he graduated with honors. He completed his Ph.D on electrophysiological mechanisms of arrhytmias after acute myocardial infarction at the University of Athens Medical School. After completing his Ph.D he started a research fellowship at Washington Hospital Center, Washington D.C (03/1999 to 10/2000). He then started his internship in General Surgery at Washington Hospital Center. Dr Stamou had his General Surgery residency at Georgetown University Hospital (2001-2005). He then completed one year thoracic surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, OH. Dr Stamou completed his thoracic surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC (2006-2008). He then worked as an advanced cardiac surgery fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where he held the academic appointment of the Instructor in Surgery at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Stamou has a special interest in aortic surgery and he completed one year aortic and endovascular fellowship at Missouri Baptist Medical Center (2009-2010) where he worked with a leading authority in aortic Surgery, Dr Nicholas Kouchoukos. Dr Stamou then joined West Michigan Cardiothoracic Surgeons and he holds privileges as an attending cardiothoracic surgeon at both Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI and Mercy Health Partners in Muskegon , MI.
