Brief Intro

Sara Tullis Wester, MD, FACS, is a professor of clinical ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. After working in investment banking at Goldman Sachs, she went to Harvard Medical School and did residency and subspecialty ASOPRS fellowship training at Bascom Palmer. Since joining the faculty, she has become involved in both basic science and clinical research, with a particular focus on thyroid eye disease (TED). She has been involved in several multi-center clinical research studies evaluating new treatments in TED and has been an invited speaker nationally and internationally on TED as well as myriad other topics in oculoplastics. She served on the board of Women in Ophthalmology, as a director at large, secretary, on the executive board and is currently the head of the international committee. She is also on the board of the North American Society of Academic Orbital Surgeons, also serving as the program committee chair for 4 virtual meetings during the pandemic, and the 2022 live meeting. She is actively involved in AAO and ASOPRS, earning the Achievement Award by AAO. She is also active in international outreach, serving as the co-chair of the Global Opportunities Committee of ASOPRS and on the Global Advisory Council for ACE Global. Dr. Wester is deeply committed to teaching and has been involved in the training of many residents and fellows at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, where she also developed an Orbital Anatomy Dissection Course in collaboration with ENT.
