Dr. Robert Friedlaender is a cornea specialist who received his Board Certification from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. After receiving his medical degree, he went on to complete his internship and residency in Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, (Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary) in Boston, Massachusetts.
As a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, he performed laboratory and clinical research at both the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). He then completed a two year fellowship in Cornea and Uveitis at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Friedlaender spent the next year practicing at a university hospital in southern Africa.
After returning to the U.S. to practice in northern Florida, he was on the Clinical Faculty of University of Florida School of Medicine in Gainesville. He received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Honors, from the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, with an emphasis on health care management. He subsequently moved to the Baltimore-Washington area, where he received a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Johns Hopkins University, and also began private clinical ophthalmology practice.
Additionally, Dr. Friedlaender has done extensive research and written numerous publications on topics such as cataracts, pupillary inequality associated with lateral gaze, herpes simplex virus, bullous disease of the conjunctiva, and herpetic retinitis.
Currently, Dr. Friedlaender sees patients at See Clearly Vision in the Arlington, Virginia, office and is on staff at Washington Hospital Center and Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC.
