Dr. Smick received his bachelorÂ’s degree from Widener University and his doctorate from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at Sacred Heart Hospital in Chester
PA and his family medicine residency at Christiana Medical Center in Delaware. Upon completion of his medical training
Dr. Smick spent six years in private practice just over the border in Salem County before joining South Jersey Healthcare in 2003. Dr. Smick is currently the medical director of the Occupational and Employee Health Department for the Hospital overseeing the medical care of over 3
000 hospital employees. His interests include viral blood borne pathogens such as HIV
Hepatitis B and C and has lectured at various public safety organizations
including the annual conferences of the Association of Boxing Commissions
regarding exposure risks. He is currently a collaborating physician in a prospective study of chronic traumatic brain injury in professional boxers. He also coordinates medical services for several state athletic commissions around the country
reviewing physical assessments of professional boxers and mixed martial arts fighters. Other areas of responsibility include workerÂ’s compensation injury care for several hundred local employers and government agencies
expert review of drug and alcohol testing
and travel medicine consultations. Dr. Smick is also a certified federal motor carrier commercial driving and FAA aviation medical examiner. He is lifetime resident of southern New Jersey and currently resides in nearby Salem County with his wife and four children.
