Richard S. Kerstine, M.D. received his Medical Degree from University of Louisville School of Medicine and then served an Internship at the former Cincinnati General Hospital. He spent two years in the U.S. Navy as a medical officer. He returned to Cincinnati General Hospital for a one-year Residency in Neurology and then completed a three-year Residency in Ophthalmology also at Cincinnati General Hospital. He had retinal training at University of Indiana College of Medicine in Indianapolis. Having passed his boards, he became a Fellow of the Board of Ophthalmology in 1967. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Ohio State Medical Association, the Ohio State Ophthalmology Society, and the Cincinnati Ophthalmology Society. Dr. Kerstine serves as a comprehensive Ophthalmologist with the retinal service at Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI). He devotes particular attention to patients suffering from diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. In addition, Dr. Kerstine treats retinal tears, blood vessel obstructions and other diseases, which may require laser photocoagulation to the eye. Dr. Kerstine is a Clinical Volunteer Professor at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He has served as the past Director of Ophthalmology at the Bethesda Hospitals and has been Chairman of the Operating Room Committee at Bethesda Hospital. Dr. Kerstine has been active in a variety of community services including the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and several local and national fund raising organizations. Inclusive of his community service, he also served many years on Amberley Village Council and was mayor for four years.
