Dr. Richard Collins, nationally known and recognized as
‘The Cooking Cardiologist,’ joined South Denver Cardiology Associates in 2003. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Collins and his family have always considered Colorado to be their second home and are excited to be a part of the Group and community.
Dr. Collins received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and obtained his cardiovascular training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is a Fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Cardiology. In addition, he served in the U.S. Navy as a physician to the U.S. Congress in Washington D.C. Dr. Collins is board certified in cardiology and internal medicine.
For the past 25 years, Dr. Collins served as the principal founder of the Alegent Health Heart Institute in Omaha, Nebraska. Prior to relocating to Littleton, he was recognized by his peers in Omaha Magazine as the ‘Most Outstanding Cardiologist." Throughout his medical career, Dr. Collins has received numerous awards and achievements.
As a leading authority and spokesperson in preventive medicine, Dr. Collins has been quoted in numerous publications, appeared on various national and local television/radio news programs and has been the guest speaker at national seminars. Adding to his public appearances, Dr. Collins also has performed more than 500 cooking demonstrations across the country and has written many medical articles promoting the benefits of a heart healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Collins is married and has three daughters who live in various parts of the country. When Dr. Collins is not busy tending to his patients or whipping something up in the kitchen, he finds time to tell a few jokes now and then. He likes to ski, hike, travel, boat and spend time with his family.
