Dr. Betz is a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in pediatric spine deformity and spinal cord injury. He is currently one of only a few spine surgeons to utilize vertebral body stapling for fusionless spine stabilization in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, as well as the wedge osteotomy procedure as an alternative to fusion in patients with paralytic scoliosis. As part of his interest in spinal cord injury, he focuses on procedures that provide functional restoration, including tendon transfers and functional electrical stimulation. An increasing part of his practice is devoted to young patients (less than 10 years of age) with complex spine problems.
