Brief Intro

Dr. Ramsey Araj is a Bay Area native who as a boy developed a passion for fixing things and compassion for all people, which he now credits as the driving forces to his becoming a surgeon. Dr. Araj completed his education locally, earning his BS from Cal State University, Hayward and his MD from the University of California at Davis. Dr. Araj then completed his internship, residency, and chief residency in the Department of Surgery at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Oakland, California. Dr. Araj is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Board of Surgery. He comes to Washington Township Medical Foundation from his practice of 25 years Gearhart/Araj Surgeons Medical Group, here in Fremont. Currently, he serves as the Director of the EPIC System, ensuring that patient records are able to travel seamlessly with the patient throughout the Washington Hospital Healthcare System (WHHS). Dr. Araj specializes in the use of robotic surgical techniques and lends his expertise to WHHS as the Medical Director of the Institute for Minimally Invasive and Robotic procedures. He is one of the first surgeons to use robots in performing minimally invasive surgery for patients suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease and he performed the first completely robotic laparoscopic colectomy in the United States in 2003 using the Zues® Robotic System. Dr. Araj lives in the East Bay with his wife and enjoys spending time with his five children whenever he can. In addition to his practice, Dr. Araj currently serves the community as an adult leader for the Boy Scouts of America and for the last 12 years as the trauma surgeon for the Pleasanton Police Department SWAT Team.
