Ram Kumar Subramanyan, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. He received his medical degree from Madras Medical College, India. He graduated as the Valedictorian of his class after winning eight gold medals during medical school. Dr. Subramanyan then moved to the United States and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Southern California in 2008, graduating with the outstanding scholar and best resident teacher awards. During his residency, he also completed a PhD in Pathobiology studying angiogenesis and blood vessel maturation in the laboratory of Parkash S. Gill, MD. His dissertation was funded by the Tobacco-related Disease Research Program of the State of California. He then continued his cardiothoracic surgery training under Vaughn A. Starnes, MD at the University of Southern California and his Congenital Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at Children's Hospital, Los Angeles.
