Phillip Y. Chung, M.D., joined the practice in August 2003. He graduated with honors from Carleton College, with a degree in biology. After his undergraduate work, he spent 2 years at the University of California – Berkeley/Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, studying molecular and biophysical chemistry and working in the laboratory of Dr. Sung Hou Kim, a pre-eminent biophysical chemist. He is a graduate of Pritzker Medical School, University of Chicago, and completed his medical internship and residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a major teaching hospital in the Harvard Medical system. He then returned to University of Chicago for his Gastroenterology fellowship. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Chung has special interests in inflammatory bowel diseases, colon cancer screening and prevention, biliary diseases, gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, and liver diseases.
