Dr. Paul M. Apyan joined University Orthopedics in 1987 after completing his Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine-Chattanooga Campus and a subsequent Fellowship in Total Joint Arthroplasty at the University of Western Ontario under the directorship of Dr. Cecil Rorabeck. In addition, he completed a Trauma Fellowship at Klintikum Rechts der Isar Kranakanheus in Munich, Germany under the directorship of Dr. Bearndt Claudi.
Dr. Apyan also serves on the UT College of Medicine faculty as an Associate Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Director of Arthroplasty. He frequently instructs in surgical clinical techniques, both in this country and abroad. He is the creator and chairman of the Basics in Arthroplasty course, which is designed to train second- and third-year orthopaedic residents in North America on the techniques of joint replacement surgery. This course is held annually in various locations in North America.
Dr. Apyan is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Association, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He has devoted much of his practice to surgical management of joint diseases to joint replacement surgery, as well as revision of these procedures.
In addition, Dr. Apyan and his wife Laura enjoy outdoor recreational activities, including golf, boating, and the restoration of cars. Dr. and Mrs. Apyan have three children, Emily, Paul Sarkis, and Alexander.
Patients may be seen by Dr. Apyan at his primary office in the University Orthopedic complex at the main campus of Erlanger Medical Center.
