During my sophomore and junior years I participated in a two-week school program during which I was able to shadow a local physician. It was then that I discovered that medicine would provide me with a challenging career while fulfilling my desire to help others. I attended undergrad and medical school at the University of Vermont and did my residency and infectious disease fellowship at Maine Medical Center. I truly enjoy talking with patients about their lives especially stories about their families. Also, it is incredibly important to me to ensure that a patient understands the medical problem I am treating so we can become partners in their treatment. I believe there should be partnership between the patient and physician with both being actively engaged in the course of treatment in order to achieve the best outcome from their medical care. I am board certified both in internal medicine and infectious diseases. My work affords me the opportunity to play "Sherlock Holmes" in order to determine the infectious cause of a patients illness. I am also the co-director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Maine Medical Center. Little known fact: Our womens basketball team won the Gold Medal at the National Senior Olympics in 2009 (at Stanford University).
