Dr. Nathan Blessing is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute specializing in oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) and is a Fellow member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dr. Blessing graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia with a degree in biology and earned scholarships to study the role of urea transporters in renal physiology. He then pursued medical school at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, where he graduated with Special Distinction as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha.Dr. Blessing completed his ophthalmology residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, consistently ranked the No. 1 ophthalmology residency training program in the United States. He then stayed at Bascom Palmer to complete an esteemed ASOPRS-accredited two-year fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery.After fellowship, Dr. Blessing returned home to Oklahoma to join the faculty of the Dean McGee Eye Institute as a Clinical Assistant Professor from 2018 to 2021 where he had an active role in residency education and also helped to train the global eye care fellow. He was instrumental in implementing both aesthetic injectable and surgical fundamental programs for the ophthalmology residents and was an active participant in the Dean McGee Global Eye Care Program. Dr. Blessing's research interests include solitary fibrous tumor of the orbit, sebaceous cell carcinoma of the ocular adnexa, orbital fracture repair, and thyroid eye disease. He has presented his research and given lectures at both national and international meetings and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. He has also traveled to Argentina, Ethiopia, and eSwatini to teach and to provide medical and surgical care. He is fluent in English and speaks conversational Spanish.
