Brief Intro

Dr. Michael Maynard is a 1975 graduate of the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. He later spent two years as an engineering graduate student and ROTC instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From MIT he went onto Cornell University Medical College where he received his MD degree in 1985. His orthopedic residency training was taken at Hospital for Special Surgery. Thereafter, he continued at HSS for a fellowship year in joint replacement under Chitranjan Ranawat, MD, and Thomas Sculco, MD, and a second fellowship year in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery under Russell Warren, MD. Highlights of Dr. Maynard's career include: -New information described in research he published led to improved treatment of injuries to the posterolateral knee ligaments. -He is among the first surgeons to develop skill and experience in the arthroscopic treatment of disorders affecting the hip joint. -For over a decade he has been team physician for over a thousand athletes fielded annually by Marist and Vassar Colleges. Recently, Marist College dedicated their athletic training facility as the "Dr. Michael J. Maynard Center for Sports Medicine." -He has formerly served as the Chief of Orthopedics at Helen Hayes Hospital. He currently serves as the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Bronx VA Hospital, where he is responsible for the education and supervision of a team of HSS physicians who provide orthopedic care to patients.
