Dr. Scherm is an Owensboro native and a graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School. He is a past president of the Kentucky Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and currently serves on the Owensboro Medical Health System Board of Directors. Dr. Scherm is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (AOA). Medical school graduates who rank in the top 17% of their class nationally are eligible for this honor. He is on staff at Owensboro Medical Health System, HealthSouth Owensboro Surgery Center, and Perry County Memorial Hospital.
