Dr. Michael Funderburk earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Six-Year Program with distinction. He was elected to the honor societies Omicron Delta Kappa as an undergraduate and Alpha Omega Alpha in medical school. During that time he served in leadership roles in the AMA and Medical School Leadership and Governance. He did his general surgery and Urologic Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital during which he did research in Urologic Cancer and served as Instructor in Surgery for Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Funderburk comes to Advanced Urology after over twenty years practicing General Urology in Savannah Georgia. He focuses on Urologic Cancer, Stone Disease, InterStim, and BPH and prides his experience in not only minimally invasive surgery but his vast experience in difficult open surgery. He served as Clinical Associate Professor in Surgery for Mercer Medical School, teaching medical students and residents. He has served in leadership of all hospital staff positions and in the American College of Surgeons. He enjoys volunteer work having served with the United Way Campaign, Scouting, Olympic Sailing in both medical and race management and several medical mission trips to Guatemala with Faith in Practice.
His passion in practice is caring for patients as individuals. He revels in knowing not just your health issues but your life experience, family and personal goals. In his spare time, he enjoys his grandkids, sailing, and diving.
