Dr. Thompson was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. After graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1993, he attended the University of Nebraska School of Medicine, graduating in 1998. He then completed a transitional year internship at the University of Tennessee/Baptist Memorial Hospital and performed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Campbell Clinic/University of Tennessee. Dr. Thompson then went on to complete a Hand Fellowship program at the prestigious Thomas Jefferson University/The Philadelphia Hand Center.
Dr. Thompson is a member of the American Medical Society, candidate member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and a fellow member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Thompson has also completed research in Thumb Metacarpophalangeal Joint Anthrodesis and Extensor Tendon Biomechanics.
Dr. Thompson's area of focus includes treating disorders of the hand and upper extremities, using the latest diagnostic and surgical techniques. His practice also includes evaluating and managing problems spanning all of orthopaedics.
