Mary Jo Cannon, MD began her work in the health care sector as a Candy Striper at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD in 1964. She was a Nursing Assistant, Registered Nurse and even rotated through Holy Cross Hospital during her Internship at George Washington University, where she spent time in her Medical Residency Program following graduation from Medical School at UMAB in 1981.
She practiced Emergency Medicine from 1983 to 2000 full time in Hospitals in the State of Maryland, the last 12 years at Cumberland Memorial Hospital. Following that she was an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and full Professor of Nursing on the Island of St. Kitts in the West Indies until 2012. In 2009, due to a rising problem with drugs in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, she took a sabbatical and earned her Master’s In Addictions Studies from Betty Ford-Hazelden in Minnesota. Upon return to the United States in 2012, she earned her waiver to prescribe Buprenorphine from SAMHSA, and worked under Dr. J Ramsay Farah, the first boarded Addictionologist in the United States, for 18 months learning Addictions Medicine and has practiced Addictions Medicine full-time ever since. She is a member of The American Society of Addictions Medicine, The American Association of Addictions Psychiatry, and the Association for Treatment of Opioid Dependence. She is also a Certified Cannabis Clinician since 2017.
For the past three years, Dr. Cannon has offered education to the providers at Outreach Recovery to serve to support their work with recovering addicts and alcoholics. She has her Masters in Addictions Studies since 2010, and full time work for over eleven years, providing these services. With locations in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey, Dr. Cannon is dedicated to helping individuals overcome their addiction. and are typically able to get you in within 24 hours.
