Dr. Norton received her medical degree and undergraduate degree in biology from Loma Linda University. She completed an internship and residency in internal medicine, as well as a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Naval Medical Center in San Diego. Dr. Norton also completed a research fellowship at the University of California San Diego Cancer Center and served as a medical officer and department head on the U.S.S. Samuel Gompers. She was recalled to military service during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with special certification in hematology and medical oncology, Dr. Norton is an associate of numerous professional organizations including the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology. She has published several articles and abstracts in scientific journals.
