Originally from St. George Utah, our Cardiothoracic Surgery Program Director is Mack C. Stirling, M.D. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1975 as Valedictorian, Summa Cum Laude, Outstanding Graduate in Chemistry, and with Highest Honors. He went on to John Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore Maryland where he graduated Alpha Omega Alpha. His internship, general surgery residency, research fellowship and cardiothoracic surgery residency were completed at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. At the completion of his thoracic training in 1987, he accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Michigan. In 1990 Dr. Stirling initiated the cardiac surgery program at Munson Medical Center. He has authored numerous major scientific papers and chapters in the field of cardiothoric surgery. Dr. Stirling has served on the Michigan Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons Quality Assurance Committee.
