Dr. Thomas earned his medical degree from LSU. He completed his internship and residencies in surgery and anesthesiology at Charity Hospital in New Orleans before completing a fellowship in critical care medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Thomas has served in numerous administrative and professional leadership positions throughout his career. He is the past Chairman of the LSU Health Sciences Center Foundation and the Director of the Louisiana District of the American College of Anesthesiologists. He formerly served as the Chief of Anesthesiology and Director of Acute and Chronic Pain Management at the New Orleans VA Medical Center. He is a Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology and Surgery at LSU and a Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Tulane. Dr. Thomas is a prolific researcher and a frequent lecturer specializing in pain management. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Anesthesiology and the Southeastern Surgical Congress and serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Thomas is board certified in surgery and anesthesiology and has been on staff at Ochsner since 2001.
