Dr. Lyndon Gross is an Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in sports medicine, specifically ailments of the shoulder, knee and elbow. He performs advanced arthroscopic, joint reconstruction and cartilage restoration procedures as well as shoulder and knee joint replacement surgery.
Training:
Dr. Gross was born and raised in Rochester New York where he earned his BA at Cornell University and has many "colorful" stories of his days in the Chi Psi fraternity house on campus. While at Cornell he played football all four years and was awarded the MVP in 1986. Dr. Gross continued his education at State University of New York, where he earned his medical degree and was elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Graduated Cum Laude Class of 1993. In addition he earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology. He worked as a bouncer at a night club and provided medical coverage for boxing matches to make extra money. It was also during this time that Dr. Gross began playing rugby for the Downstate Rugby Football Club, he went on to play with the Seven's Rugby Select Side Rugby Team in Hong Kong and in several National Championships. Dr. Gross completed his general surgery internship and Orthopedic Residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Dr. Gross completed his Fellowship training in Sports Medicine at the world renowned Alabama Sports Medicine Institute under Dr. William Clancy and Dr. James Andrews. During his Fellowship he worked with Troy University Football Team and the Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Team. Dr. Gross has spot on impersonations of Dr. Clancy and Dr. Andrews and has so many funny stories of his Fellowship year. After he completed his Fellowship Dr. Gross backpacked in Vietnam for a month before beginning private practice.
Career:
Dr. Gross began his private practice at Orthopedic and Sports Medicine in Kirkwood and moved over to The Orthopedic Center of St. Louis in 2005. In 2006 he became a Team Physician for the St. Louis Cardinals and has two World Series rings. In 2009 Dr. Gross was one of the first Orthopedic Surgeons in the St. Louis area to earn his Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopedic Sports Medicine from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). He has been selected by his peers as one of the Best Doctors in America since 2007, an honor only given to 5% of the doctors practicing in the U.S. Dr. Gross has penned several publications and book chapters and has given countless presentations including most notably presenting to the International Olympic Committee in 2011 on Prevention of Injury & Illness in Sports.
