The John Sealy Distinguished Chair in Transplantation Surgery is held by Dr. Luca Cicalese, Professor in the Department of Surgery, Director of the Texas Transplant Center and Director of Hepatobiliary Service.Dr. Cicalese and his team started UTMBs liver transplant program a few days before IKE and have a 100% survival rate in the first year. They have organized a new hepatobiliary center using various techniques, including laparoscopy, for liver resections. In addition, the Texas Transplant Center is one of only two centers in the US in a phase two trial for a new medication for liver cancer.
