Dr. Linda Carroll was born in New York City and grew up in the surrounding suburbs. After college, she worked for the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite as a production assistant/secretary. In 1971, she moved to southern California where she received a Master's Degree in physical therapy from the University of Southern California. Subsequently, she worked as a physical therapist for 12 years, first in California and then in New York. In 1986, she entered medical school (Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio); following medical school, she completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation (physiatry) at the University of Washington in Seattle. After residency, Dr. Carroll entered private practice in the Port Angeles/Sequim area of the north Olympic Peninsula. She moved to Bend in 2001.
Dr. Carroll's practice focuses on musculo-skeletal issues, primarily those involving the spine and muscle/joint regions as the result of a sports/recreational injury or of an on-the-job injury (i.e. Workman's Compensation claim). Since many people with musculo-skeletal problems often have pain as a result of their injury, a physiatrist such as Dr. Carroll will treat pain as a part of the total treatment program of rehabilitiation that is aimed at restoring the person to as normal function as possible. She also performs a variety of soft tissue and joint injections as well as electrodiagnostic studies (EMG and nerve conduction).
