Tony S. Reed, M.D., joined Christiana Care Health System as the director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. He is a team physician for Delaware State University and the school-based health center physician for Dickinson and Delcastle High Schools.
Prior to moving to Wilmington, he attended Wilkes University and MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine. He completed his residency in family medicine at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center in Reading, Pa., where he served as the chief resident and a member of the graduate medical education committee. He was recognized as an Exceptional Teacher by The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in 2003.
Following residency, Dr. Reed completed his fellowship in sports medicine at The Ohio State University, serving as a team physician for OSU, Otterbein College and Marion Franklin High School. He also served as a clinical instructor for the OSU School of Medicine and Otterbein College Athletic Training Program.
Following training, Dr. Reed practiced as the director of primary care sports medicine for Geisinger Health System in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., serving as a team physician for the Wilkes Barre Penguins (AHL), the Wilkes Barre Pioneers (Arena Football), Wilkes University and College Misericordia as well as several high schools. He has served at the Keystone State Games, Columbus Marathon, NFL Combine, NCAA gymnastics championships, and NCAA Big Ten wrestling championships. Additionally, he practiced as the medical director for the State Correctional Institute in Muncy, Pa., and as a consultant in musculoskeletal care for the Luzerne County and Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
Tony's areas of interest include high school and recreational sports, medical aspects of sports health and fitness, and conditioning and performance based sports. He is the medical consultant for a youth cowboy and camping adventure camp in Dubois, Wyo., is an avid private pilot, enjoys travel and time off with his son, Anderson.
