Lawrence A. Raymond, M.D. received his Medical Degree from University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed his Internship at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania and Ophthalmology Residency at University of California Medical Center, San Francisco. He served a National Institute of Health (NIH) Special Fellowship in Retinal and Vitreous Surgery and Diseases at Barnes Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis. He has been elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and the Vitreous Society. He is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and was selected among Top Doctors in 1998 Cincinnati Magazine. Since 1971, he has been Director of the Retinal-Vitreous service at University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Raymond has authored more than 30 articles published in peer-review journals concerning his subspecialty. He is currently a scientific reviewer for three journals: Archives of Ophthalmology, Retina, and Ophthalmic Surgery and Lasers. He is also a contributor to the textbooks Current Ocular Therapy and Diagnosis and Treatment of Uveitis.
Dr. Raymond's areas of clinical interest and expertise include surgical repair of full-thickness macular hole and macular pucker, surgical excision of subfoveal neovascularization, vitrectomy for complications of proliferative diabetic retinopathy, or other non-diabetic proliferative retinopathies, endophthalmitis, complicated retinal detachment, and laser treatment of diabetic macular edema, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, proliferative retinopathy due to retinal vein occlusion, wet macular degeneration, histoplasmic maculopathy, sickle retinopathy, dense premacular hemorrhage, localized retinal detachment, pars planitis, and intraocular vascular tumors. He performs photodynamic therapy for wet macular degeneration.
Dr. Raymond and his wife, Carole, are avid readers, collect folk art, and enjoy their Yorkshire terriers. Dr. Raymond plays piano, writes music, and makes tracks on his Nordic ski machine.
