Dr. Biermann attended Portland State University where he received a BS in Biology. He earned his medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University in 1976. Dr. Biermann finished his internship in diversified surgery at OHSU then spent 3 years as a General Medical Officer in the Navy, one year on Midway Island and 2 years at Naval Air Station, Fallon Nevada before finishing his Family Medicine training at Camp Pendleton. He is an experienced practitioner who relies on a good history and an appropriate physical examination to make a diagnosis, with the use of technology in a supportive role.
"In today’s medical environment patients present often having explored the internet and have a good idea what is going on with them, or at least a reasonable differential diagnosis of their problem. I see my role as a diagnostician to clarify the diagnosis and then review treatment options with them, leaving the decision on how to proceed to the patient and their family."
In many ways, Dr. Biermann sees his job as an educator, teacher and health care consultant, who teaches the patient and family about their medical condition and gives them as much information as they need or want, allowing them to make the therapeutic decisions with his consultation.
Dr. Biermann’s family is the focus of his life. He has two adult children and a 9 year old son, in addition to 2 grandchildren. Dr. Biermann is a master scuba diver and underwater photographer, a fly fisherman, and an upland game hunter with 2 Brittney Spaniel dogs. He is also a private pilot, and has a love for vintage automobiles.
