Dr. Karen joined the practice in 2005. She grew up in McLean, Virginia, graduated from Langley High School and then headed west, majoring in Biochemistry at UC Berkeley. She kept up this bi-coastal theme, with medical school at Georgetown University and pediatric residency at Oakland Children’s Hospital in the San Francisco Bay area. Her one mid-America experience was private practice in Cincinnati, OH (her husband was training in Pediatric Radiology), before moving once again, this time to Seattle and the beautiful Pacific Northwest. She is thrilled to finally be back in Northern Virginia (where the sun shine bright and the seasons change) and proud to be a member of the Farrell Pediatrics team. Dr. Karen is Board Certified in Pediatrics, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a member of the Northern Virginia Pediatric Society.
Dr. Karen loves being a pediatrician and taking care of the many children that come to our practice. Dr. Karen had asthma growing up as a child and also learned first hand about how scary medicine can be when she injured her knee running track in high school. These experiences, and her desire to work with kids, made her career choice easy. Dr. Karen has twin girls and a younger son who keep her very busy when she is not in the office. She loves roaming and exploring the DC area with her familiy and enjoys photography, travel, reading and Pilates.
