J. David Hip-Flores, M.D., is a board certified, fellowship-trained joint replacement specialist and Major in the US Army Reserve Medical Corps who previously served as a military orthopedic surgeon in Afghanistan. In 2019, Dr. Hip-Flores was the recipient for the Northwell SIUH Service Excellence Award for Patient Care. He was recognized by Castle Connolly for his excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery and awarded Regional Top Doctor 2019-2021 and Top Doctor NY Metro Area 2019-2021. Instrumental to the success of SIUH s Total Joint Replacement Program in conjunction with his volunteer efforts for Operation Walk , Dr. Hip-Flores was nominated for the prestigious Northwell Health Physician of the Year Award in 2020, representing Staten Island University Hospital.As a New Jersey native, Dr. Hip-Flores attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. Dr. Hip-Flores earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York where he was honored as the SUNY Downstate Chief Resident of the Year 2011 and Kings County Hospital Chief Resident of the Year 2011.In Maryland, Dr. Hip-Flores obtained sub-specialty training in orthopaedic adult reconstruction surgery at the Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Rubin Institute of Advanced Orthopedics. Dr. Hip-Flores is fellowship trained in Orthopaedic Adult Reconstructive Surgery with special attention to hip and knee replacement, minimally invasive joint replacement including anterior hip replacement, as well as complex revision hip and knee reconstruction. Before his tenure at Healthcare Associates in Medicine, a division of Orlin & Cohen Medical Specialists Group, Dr. Hip-Flores volunteered in Operation Walk , providing medical care to those who live in impoverished countries. Presently, he continues to serve as a founding team physician at the Center for Hip and Knee Replacement Center of Staten Island University Hospital South Campus.
