Dr. DeFiore completed medical school in Chicago at Loyola, an internship at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in New York followed by two years in the Army in Panama. He then completed a first year general surgery residency at the University of California in San Francisco, an orthopedic residency in New York at the Hospital for Special Surgery, and a Hand Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and Louisville, Kentucky.
Dr. DeFiore came to Knoxville in 1972 to practice orthopedics and hand surgery. He sub-specializes in hand surgery and rheumatoid surgery of the hand. He is a member of multiple orthopedic organizations and has served as President of four of these.
Dr. DeFiore is board certified in orthopedics as well as hand surgery and has been an Examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons for more than 20 years. He has been selected by his fellow physicians to the prestigious listing of the "Best Doctors in America."
Dr. DeFiore is the father of two married daughters and now has three grandchildren. His wife, Jayne, has a PhD in History and is retired from the University of Tennessee.
