Dr. Jose A. Adams was born in Havana, Cuba and has been a resident of South Florida for 46 years. He received his medical degree from Escuela Autonoma de Ciencias Medicas in San Jose, Costa Rica. Dr. Adams completed his internship and residency in pediatric at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was chief resident. He also completed a fellowship in neonatology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial. Board certified in pediatrics and neonatal perinatal medicine, Dr. Adams has been the director for the Division of Neonatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center from 1989 to present. He is also a professor of pediatrics at Florida International University and a voluntary assistant professor at the University Of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Adams has been the regional instructor of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program since its inception in 1989 and has trained numerous research fellows. Dr. Adams is been involved in basic scientific research for over 25 years and serves as the director of the Neonatology Cardiopulmonary Research Laboratory, funded in part by the American Heart Association, Florida Heart Research and other grants. He holds collaborative research projects with the University of Pennsylvania, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Harvard's Brigham and Women's Hospital and the University of Louisville Biomedical Engineering Department. Dr. Adams has presided as chairman of the Mount Sinai Institutional Review Board since 1992. A well established author, Dr. Adams has written more than 200 publications in the field of neonatology and on the topics of endothelium, the cellular lining of blood vessels, and ischemia reperfusion injury. He has also been a guest lecturer nationally and internationally in more than twenty countries. Dr. Adams has been married to Anabelle for 33 years; they are the proud parents of three children and the grandparents of two grandchildren. In his spare time, Dr. Adams enjoys working out, boating, fishing, traveling, meditating and spending time with his family.
