Dr. John C Comisi, DDS

About Dr. Comisi Dr. Comisi has been in the private practice of General Dentistry in Ithaca, NY since 1983. He is a graduate of Northwestern University Dental School, and received his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Fordham University. He is a member of many dental organizations including: the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the New York State Dental Association, the Sixth District Dental Society, the American Equilibration Society, the American and International Association of Dental Research. Dr. Comisi is a Fellow in the Academy of Dentistry International, a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He received the prestigious Fellowship Award from The Academy of General Dentistry in 1993, and received the coveted Mastership Award from the Academy of General Dentistry in July 2011. To attain Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry, members must be Fellows of the AGD who have earned at least 1100 hours of approved continuing education credits, meeting minimum requirements in each of the dental disciplines. In addition, 400 of the required credits must be in participation courses, where skills are learned through manipulation of dental materials and techniques. In the AGD’s 60 year history, 15346 members have earned Fellowship and 2822 have received Mastership - the AGD’s most prestigious Award. He is also a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. The International College of Dentists is a leading honorary dental organization dedicated to the recognition of outstanding professional achievement and meritorious service and the continued progress of the profession of dentistry for the benefit of all humankind. Dr. Comisi is a Research Associate to the New York University School of Dentistry and is a Member of the PEARL (Practitioners Engaging in Applied Research and Learning) Network, a research group sponsored by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). On April 19, 2007 he was elected by the New York State Academy of General Dentistry’s (NYSAGD) Board of Directors to represent Region 2 (New York State) as a member of the Board of Trustees to the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), a position he still holds today. Dr. Comisi lectures on various dental topics and procedures, has presented courses nationally and internationally and has been published in many dental journals and health care magazines. He is a member of Dental Team Concepts, a group of Key Opinion Leaders (KOL's) whose mission is to bring unbiased clinical education to dental professionals. Dr. Comisi is also a spokesperson for the Academy of General Dentistry, one of the largest dental organizations in the United States. He has served on the Board of the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce (1997 - 2000), and is a Distinguished Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Ithaca (1990).  He has served on the Executive Board of the Baden-Powell Council, BSA (2000 - 2011).Dr. Comisi is a recipient of the prestigious Silver Beaver Award which was presented by the Baden-Powell Council, BSA to him in February 2006. This is a national award presented annually by the Council for outstanding service to youth within the Council. He is a Past President of the New York State Academy of General Dentistry a past President of the Sixth District Dental Society, a component of the New York State Dental Association and a Past President of the Tompkins County Dental Society.
