Receiving her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 1998, Dr. Smith went on to complete her pediatric residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in 2001. After her residency, Dr. Smith received her board certification and worked in the Fremont, Ohio Community Health Center focusing on medical care for children of migrant farm workers. Dr. Smith moved to the Valley with her husband and two daughters in 2003 to start her practice with Providence Matanuska Health Care in 2003. She has also worked with medical relief teams to Sri Lanka after the 2005 tsunami and with Global Health Outreach in Haiti in 2007. Her other interests lie in piano, gardening, snowboarding, hiking, camping, knitting and sewing.
