Dr. Aplington is a native of Waterville, ME.
He received his B.A. Degree in chemistry, with honors, from Amherst College, and his M.D. Degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Aplington served an internship in general surgery at Duke University School of Medicine, then served as a junior assistant resident. His residency in orthopaedic surgery was also served at Duke University Medical Center. Prior to completing his residency, he was a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Orthopaedics.
Dr. Aplington is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Society of Sigma Xi, National Scientific Honorary Society. He began practice with Greensboro Orthopaedic Center in 1974.
He has served Wesley Long Hospital as a past member of its Board of Trustees, past president of its medical staff and former Chief of Surgery. He served as president of the Greensboro Orthopaedics from 2002 through 2010. In 2004 he was Guest of Honor at the Piedmont Orthopedic Society in Savannah, Georgia.
In 2008 and 2009 Dr. Aplington was selected as one of America's Top Orthopedists by the Consumers' Research Council of America.
His non-professional interests include tennis, reading and bridge. He is married to the former Carol Davis, and they have three adult children, Robert, Kimberly and Christina.
