Dr. Culberson is a graduate of the Honors College at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina, receiving a B.S. in Biology.
He received his D.M.D. degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.
While at MUSC, Dr. Culberson joined the U. S. Navy Reserve as an ensign. Upon graduation, he served as a Lieutenant (O-3) in the Navy Dental Corps. He had the opportunity to serve U.S.M.C. personnel stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for three years. Although there for a relatively short time, Dr. Culberson was exposed to a wide variety of dental care experiences, from general dental restorative care, oral and periodontal surgical care, to hospital care and dental forensics. He still maintains and enjoys friendships formed during this short time.
Dr. Culberson ended his active miltary service upon entering postgraduate studies in Periodontics back at the Medical University of South Carolina. While at MUSC, he also obtained an M.S. in Microbiology and Immunology.
As a newly trained periodontist, Dr. Culberson moved to the Fredericksburg area with his family and has practiced periodontics and implant dentistry for over twenty years. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and is a Past President of the Virginia Society of Periodontics. He is active in various local and national dental and periodontal organizations. Dr. Culberson continues to expand upon his dental and periodontal training, having special interests in periodontal regeneration and implantology.
Dr. Culberson resides in the Fredericksburg area with his wife Cindy. They have five children and remain active in their lives. Dr. and Mrs. Culberson are members of St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church in Orange, Virginia.
