James E. Montie received his MD in 1971 from the University of Michigan. He completed his urologic surgery internship and residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1976 and then proceeded to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to study urologic oncology under Dr. Willet Whitmore
Jr.
in 1978. He then returned to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation as the Chairman of the Section of Urologic Oncology and became Chairman of the Department in 1983. In 1988
he moved to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Florida and became the Chairman of the Department of Urology and stayed there until 1991
at which time he became Director of Urologic Oncology Program at Wayne State University School of Medicine. In 1995
he relocated to the University of Michigan at the rank of Professor of Surgery and was awarded the Valassis Chair of Urologic Oncology the following year. Dr. Montie
an established clinical researcher in urologic oncology with a proven track record of training residents and fellows
was recently promoted to Department Chairman of Urology in 1997.
