He earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology at the J. William Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Arkansas and a medical degree at UAMS. After completing a six year urology residency at Vanderbilt University in 1992, he joined the Springfield Clinic in Missouri. Four years later, he assumed Chairmanship of that program, when it became one of the largest urology departments in North America. Under his Chairmanship, the Department of Urological Surgery became the highest rated non-academic urology program in America, according to U.S.News & World Report.
