Dr. Howard L. Sacher is board certified in Internal Medicine and Subspecialty Cardiology. Dr. Sacher received a B.A. from Queens College, at the University of New York in 1967. He then attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he obtained his Doctor of Osteopathy in 1971. Dr. Sacher’s post-graduate training includes an internship and then residency at the Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, New York until 1974.
After teaching Cardiology at the Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, Dr. Sacher was appointed a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and Cardiology at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York. After his acting duties as a Clinical Associate Professor, Dr. Sacher became the Chief of Cardiology.
Research includes a comparison of I-131 Hippuran and Technetium -99 DTPA in evaluating renal function in 1974 at the Nassau County Medical Center and drug research with Amiodarone, Encanide, and Flecanide from 1982-1990 at the Albert Einstein Medical Center. Dr. Sacher has also performed clinical trials in cardiac rehabilitation and clinical research in Radionuclide Cineangiography.
Along with his extensive research, Dr. Sacher was able to publish numerous medical editorials and articles. Some of his publications include “The Patient With Syncope and Abdominal Distensions: A Case Report†(Journal of Osteopathic Medicine, July 1992), “Unexpected Reversal of an Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy and the Urgent Need for Reevaluation of the Indicators of Survival†(New York State Journal of Medicine, September 1992), “First Pass Radionuclide Cineangiography in Diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease in Patients Older than 75 years: Evaluation of Sensitivity†(Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, July 1995), and “The Clinical and Hemodynamic Effects of CoEnzyme Q10 in Congestive Cardiomyopathy†(American Journal of Therapeutics, 1997).
Dr. Sacher is a member of the following societies: American College of Physicians, American Osteopathic Association, New York State Osteopathic Society, Long Island Society of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, American Heart Association, Nassau Heart Association, Education Committee of ECG Technicians of AHA, Fellow American College of Physicians, Fellow American College of Angiology, and Fellow American College of Clinical Pharmacology.
Throughout his medical career, Dr. Sacher has had several hospital staff privileges as the Attending Medicine and Cardiology at Nassau University Medical Center, New Island Hospital, North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset, Winthrop University Hospital, and St. Francis Hospital. Dr. Sacher is currently affiliated with New Island Hospital and North Shore Plainview Hospital.
