Hasitha Vemula, MD, is an endocrinologist who specializes in care for patients with disorders of the endocrine system, or hormone-related conditions. Medicine runs in Dr. Vemula’s family. Her grandfather was a renowned physician in a small town in India. Watching him nurture people back to health inspired her to pursue the same path to help people around her. Dr. Vemula considers it a noble calling to care for someone and improve their quality of life. During her medical schooling in India, she was an active volunteer with nonprofit organizations that served underprivileged groups. She conducted free mobile eye checks to locals in small villages, and helped provide necessities and health education at orphanages, elder care homes and schools for the blind. She then went on to complete an internal medicine residency followed by a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism in the United States. Dr. Vemula diagnoses and treats a range of endocrine disorders, including diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, and adrenal and pituitary problems. She takes pride in making sure her patients feel that their concerns are heard, and that they are involved in their care and the decision-making process. In her spare time, Dr. Vemula enjoys spending time with her family, hiking and reading books.
