After graduating from the Bronx High School of Science, I entered Columbia College thinking that my science background would lead me to a major in either Mathematics or Chemistry. By the end of my sophomore year, I realized that I would prefer to be in a situation that allowed me to use my scientific background and skills when dealing with people. Thus, I chose to pursue a path, which would lead me to becoming a doctor of medicine. Over the years it has been my pleasure to work hard as a physician and make sure that I explain the complexities of medicine to my patients in readily understandable English. A compliment that patients have frequently offered is that they appreciated my efforts to guide them through the roller coaster of emotions when dealing with their illness.
Prior to moving to Passaic in 1978, I had the opportunity to interact with people in many different types of communities. I went to medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and then did my Residency in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Montefiore Hospital, both in different parts of the Bronx. I also spent two years working as a physician in the Air Force, stationed in Hampton, Virginia. These varied experiences allowed me to meet a large cross-section of people with all sorts of problems. These opportunities helped prepare me for life in the melting pot of northern New Jersey.
As a staff member of the former Passaic Beth Israel and Passaic General Hospitals, as well as the PBI Regional Medical Center, I have served in many capacities. I have been elected by my peers to be President of the Medical Staff. I have also served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, as well as Chairman of the Department of Medicine, the Credentials Committee, the Ethics committee and the Critical Care Committee. At St. Mary's Hospital, I have been appointed to the Board of Trustees and again serve as Chairman of the Critical Care Committee and serve on the Ethics Committee. As a member of each of these committees, I have felt the responsibility of trying to represent the needs of the community-at-large. After all, few members of the general public have a good understanding of the workings of a hospital. As I work to represent the public, people can be assured that an "insider" is looking out for their needs.
